Fireworks display set for Saturday

CLOVIS — An Independence Day fireworks display, without the traditional large gatherings, is scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday.

The city released information about the show Monday. This year’s fireworks display, normally funded by donations from individuals and businesses, is funded through $20,000 from local governments. The city provided $10,000 through its lodgers tax fund, while Curry County provided $10,000 with an equal share from the county commission travel budget and county manager expense budget.

Residents are encouraged to watch the show from their homes if possible, and officials said all of the fireworks will be aerial with no ground displays. The show will also be streamed on the city’s Facebook page.

Parking will be available in the Hilltop Plaza, and the city asks residents to respect the wishes of businesses in the plaza.

Starting Thursday, the city will close Main Street from 21st to Purdue to allow Western Fireworks to set up the show.

Greene Acres Park will be closed to the public throughout the day, along with Purdue and 21st streets between Main and Mitchell. Residents are asked not to park on the closed stretches.
