Hounds, Cowboys cancel Sept. 3 football opener

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands have agreed to cancel their football game that was scheduled for Sept. 3 at Greyhound Stadium.

The move will help the Greyhounds curvthe regular season to 10 games — the maximum number of contests allotted for Division II football by the NCAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hounds will now kickoff the season Sept. 12th at Adams State. Eastern New Mexico will maintain the rest of the 10 games on the 2020 schedule as previously announced, giving the Greyhounds five scheduled home and away games throughout the season.

The schools have not reached an agreement on rescheduling as of Tuesday.
