Softball season canceled

CLOVIS - After holding on for as long as it could to see if the answer would be yes, the Clovis Softball Association told its coaches and players on Monday the answer was no on a summer league season.

The communication from Association Director Roger Jackson wasn't a surprising one. Thursday, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's office noted organized sports leagues of pretty much any type couldn't take place, and restrictions on mass gatherings that wiped out the Custom Classic tournament have been in place since late March.

Jackson said he still is optimistic for a fall season.

Following the cancellation of the spring season, the association told its members it would simply roll any registration payments it had collected into the summer season. Those entry fees, Jackson said, have not been deposited and will be refunded in the manner it was paid. Only the coach or sponsor can collect the refund, and must sign a receipt to acknowledge the money was refunded.

Refunds can be picked up at Ideal Auto Sales, but visitors are asked to only come in if the office is clear of other visitors.

Teams that have played in United States Specialty Sports Association tournaments in 2020 will owe a $45 registration fee.
