The Amarillo Tri-State Exposition Executive Board of Directors has announced it will be modifying and canceling part of the 2020 Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, scheduled Sept. 18-26, due to COVID-19.
The board decided to move forward with youth market livestock shows, equine shows as well as its bantam show and agriculture mechanics show. Every other event, with the exception of the PRCA Rodeo, has been canceled, according to a fair news release.
“We, as a board, would like nothing more than to feel that the thing to do is to hold the fair without modifications,” Virgil Bartlett, the general manager of Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, said in the release. “However, our current circumstances with public health do not allow for that to happen.”
Bartlett said the board has tabled the rodeo until it has a better feel for the virus’ projections.
The board will meet again Aug. 3 to make further decisions on the rodeo.
