LSC to make fall sports announcement July 27

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Lone Star Conference held a virtual meeting for its council of presidents Friday and had preliminary talks on the status of fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a release, the conference said it plans an announcement regarding fall sports by July 27, and until then will monitor public health conditions with local and state officials, along with the NCAA.

Several Division-I conferences have already made decisions to postpone fall sports, and NCAA President Mark Emmert told ESPN Thursday, “Today, sadly, the data point in the wrong direction. If there is to be college sports in the fall, we need to get a much better handle on the pandemic.”

The conference includes Eastern New Mexico University and 17 other schools throughout New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

ENMU recognizing top 10 moments

PORTALES — Though it was cut short by COVID-19, the Eastern New Mexico athletic season had plenty of memorable moments.

And ENMU’s athletic department will recognize the “Top Ten Moments of 2019-20” over the course of the next few weeks.

A historic 2019-20 for Eastern New Mexico athletics that saw three postseason victories, three programs match or best school-record win totals, and a host of individual performances, will be highlighted as the 2020-21 athletic season (hopefully) draws near. Each moment will be spotlighted with graphics and a release on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the next few weeks leading into the fall semester.

Among the standout achievements might be ENMU’s football team winning its first postseason game in history. Or the Eastern women’s basketball team qualifying for the NCAA Division II tournament, though the Greyhounds were denied their visit to the dance by COVID-19. Each moment highlighted will represent a game or accomplishment that served as a vital piece to a successful 2019-20 for the respective program. The top 10 moments were selected by the Eastern New Mexico sports information department based on a multitude of factors, according to that department.
