ENMU regents to pick Ruidoso president

PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University Regents will end the month with a pair of Friday meetings.

The regents will hold a telephonic meeting Friday afternoon to appoint a president for the Ruidoso campus, then on July 31 have a board work session.

The 1:30 p.m. Friday meeting has just two items — an appointment for ENMU-Ruidoso and a resolution recognizing current president Ryan Carstens.

Those wishing to attend should contact the ENMU president’s office at 575-562-2121.

The Ruidoso presidential search resulted in 51 applications, with five finalists — Daniel Barwick of Iowa, Brett Campbell of Oklahoma, Ted Lewis of West Virginia, Joey Fronheiser of Oklahoma and current ENMU-Ruidoso Vice President of Student Learning and Success Ryan Trosper.

The board retreat, scheduled for 1 p.m. July 31 at the Zia Room of the Cooperative Educational Services building in Albuquerque, does not include any action items. The purpose, according to the agenda, is to “discuss communication processes, current and future status of university procedures and various thoughts regarding working relationships between staff, administration and board.”

The retreat may include an executive session, the agenda notes, but no action will be taken.

College to offer COVID-19 tests — Free COVID-19 testing will be available Aug. 3 for students and staff of Eastern New Mexico University, according to a communication sent to The News by Interim Chancellor Patrice Caldwell.

The university’s health services partner, La Casa Family Health Care, will offer the tests from 9 a.m. to noon outside of the health services office at Curry Hall. Signs will direct those wishing for tests to a drive-thru line.

Students are asked to bring insurance cards, but no student without insurance will be turned away.

Caldwell said additional testing opportunities will be arranged as needed.
