Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
SANTA FE — Three local municipalities received a total of $26,270 in New Mexico Clean and Beautiful grants for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
New Mexico Arts, the state’s arts agency, announced the funding as part of $1.5 million in state and federal awards to nearly 200 arts organizations, schools, tribal governments and municipalities. The money is funded through the state general fund, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the federal CARES Act.
The following local entities received money:
• City of Clovis ($11,470): The amount is about a $3,000 increase over last year’s award. The grant traditionally pays for the city’s two trash pickup events, but the city used unencumbered money from the canceled Great American Cleanup to improve xeriscaping at the Youth Recreation Building.
The city’s parks, recreation and beautification committee has not yet specified a use for the additional monies.
• Curry County ($8,500): County Manager Lance Pyle said the money will be spent planting trees at the Ranchvale Fire Department and Curry County Fairgrounds and facilitating litter clean-up events throughout Curry County. “These projects will enhance our facilities and impact Curry County residents and our community,” Pyle told The News. “We look forward to starting these projects later this year.”
• City of Portales: ($6,300): The city anticipates using the money to fund its two trash cleanups, advertise cleanup efforts, hire youth groups for various projects, improve the city’s community garden and eradicate graffiti.
