1970: Bill Southard, a native New Mexican who had edited the newspaper in Pratt, Kansas, the past three years, had been named managing editor of the Clovis News- Journal.
News-Journal Publisher Charles Fischer said Southard would succeed George Prothro who was returning to college.
Southard, a journalism graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, was married and had three children.
