Pair of fires Friday, Saturday

CLOVIS — The Clovis Fire Department battled a pair of fires Friday night and Saturday morning.

Battalion Chief David Burress said the department received a call about 10:30 p.m. Friday for a fire at the landfill. Burress said the department knocked the fire out within two hours, and probably won’t be able to determine the cause.

Then about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the department responded to a house fire at 509 Merriwether. The department knocked out the fire within about five minutes, but Burress said there wasn’t much active fire by the time the department arrived.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and the family is being helped by the Red Cross, Burress said.
