udget counselor, coach and author Judy Lawrence says that “modern overload” is making it difficult to manage spending. Pre-retirement is often a wake-up call for setting up a budget. Lawrence will explain her Budget Kit Workbook for the 21st century. She lives in Albuquerque.
Registered dietitian and nutritionist, Sarah Ryan explains that the DASH diet incorporates 3 servings of dairy each day plus a balance of the other food groups. Simple swaps make the DASH diet easy to follow for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She represents DairyMAX and lives in Conroe, Texas.
Designer and crafter Shannon Bielke will show how to use regular dominoes and a few simple craft products and turn them into jewelry, books, ornaments and more. Bielke’s company is Sha & Co. and she lives in Payson, Arizona.
Information on painting bronze columns, how to build a healthier heart and life, and edible plants will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Jamie Alcorta, owner of Walls of Art in Lubbock, will show how to paint columns or any accessory to coordinate using oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures. These are some of the products which are shown in today’s new home construction.
Registered dietitian and author Pat Baird is going to explain how to build a healthier heart and a healthier life. Her four-step plan is do-able for everyone. She lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Curt Jaynes owns and operates GardenSource Nursery & Landscaping in Portales, and he’s going to talk about edible plants, such as thyme, stevia, lavender as well as geraniums, pansies and other flowers.
Brownies
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
2/3 cup 1% milk
1 cup mashed avocado
1/2 cup applesauce
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 extra large egg, lightly beaten
Preheat the oven to 350° F. Generously spray with nonstick cooking spray an 8 x 8 inch square baking pan. (To avoid using spray, line pan with parchment paper.) Sift flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder and salt. Whisk together the avocado, applesauce, milk, vanilla and egg. Fold into the dry ingredients. Pour into pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Allow to cool in the pan completely before cutting into 2 x 2” squares.
