Prince Street Leal's building for sale

CLOVIS - The Leal's Mexican restaurant location on Prince Street is for sale, but owner Laura Leal said she intends to keep the popular eatery's Mabry location open.

Leal said the decision to try and sell the Prince Street location was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect associated public health orders have had on the restaurant business.

"Whenever COVID happened, I decided to reduce down to one store not knowing what was going to happen from day to day," Leal said. "It's just kind of the way it worked out.

"It's an option I'm exploring for the betterment of the business, for the employees, and for the community. Mabry has been busy since all of this started. We had to go from a fully dine-in restaurant to carryout so we've been having to adjust and work through things weekly and monthly, while just not knowing what's going to happen."

Also up for sale is the former Dakota Steakhouse building, which had frequently handled overflow parking for the Prince Street Leal's. Dakota's was purchased with an idea to create a Brazilian-style steakhouse, but the pandemic altered those plans as well.

Leal said so far no offers have been made on either property.

"We've had a lot of people express interest, but I don't have a buyer yet," she said. "I'm going to leave it on the market for a little while. We're going to have them on the market, and if there's not a buyer and if things turn around we'll see what happens."

An Amarillo location for Leal's closed during the pandemic, with plans to explore options once the pandemic settles down. Still open are the flagship location in Muleshoe, the Tamale Factory in Lubbock, the Leal's Tortilla Factory, and its Plainview location.
