Clovis native honored
DALLAS — A Clovis native has received his law school’s highest level of award, according to a university release.
Nathan Hecht, chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, has been named this year’s recipient of the Robert G. Storey Award for Distinguished Achievement from Southern Methodist University Delman School. The awards ceremony has been postponed to the spring due to COVID-19 concerns.
Hecht, a 1967 graduate of Clovis High School, holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and graduated from Delman with honors in 1974.
Hecht has appointed to the 95th District Court in Dallas County in 1981, elected to the Fifth District Court of Appeals in 1986 and to the state supreme court in 1988. He has been chief justice since October 2013.
He is the longest tenured state judge in active service, and has served on the state supreme court longer than any other judge.
