Clovis man found guilty in burglary

CLOVIS - A Clovis man was found guilty Friday of aggravated burglary and other charges stemming from a September 2019 incident, according to the district attorney's office.

Ruben Lopez, 25, was sentenced to 15 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections for the charges, which also included two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and felony firearm possession. District Judge Matt Chandler sentenced Lopez to a total of 20 years, six months with five years, six months suspended.

According to the release, Lopez burst into a 10th Street home and pointed a .22 rifle at two occupants. The Curry County jury heard testimony from members of the Clovis Police Department and recorded phone conversations indicating Lopez contacted the victims and coerced them not to appear at the trial.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney. An attempt to contact Lopez' attorney, Ralph Dowden, was unsuccessful.
