Fig desserts ahead on show

Information on making fig desserts, using citrus fruit for centerpieces, and coloring lace with liquid paints will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Karla Stockli is the CEO for the California Fig Advisory Board, and she will talk about fresh fruit and figs as a popular item for desserts, as well as share some of her favorite ways to incorporate figs into desserts. Stockli is from Fresno, California.

Kymberly Meade is the Marketing Coordinator with TexaSweet Citrus Marketing, Inc., and she will demonstrate how to entertain with grapefruit and oranges and show how to make an elegant centerpiece with these fruits. Other tips include the health benefits and proper selection of citrus fruits. She’s from Mission, Texas.

Patty Dunn is a teacher, designer and owner of All Dunn Designs. She’s going to demonstrate how to color lace using liquid paints. She’ll show how to get a watercolor look or apply with shaving cream for an antique look. She has lots of samples and garments to show how coloring can be applied. Dunn lives in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Information on making treat pops, relieving pain in 3 seconds, and using candles to make events more special will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Nancy Siler formerly represented Wilton Brands in Woodridge, Illinois, and she’s going to demonstrate how to make Treat Pops, which are sweet, individual servings of cake layered with icing or a favorite filling and topped with a festive accent suitable for any occasion.

Dr. Daniel Marez is a doctor of Oriental medicine, and has written a book on relieving pain. He’s going to explain what acupuncture can and cannot do. He’ll also talk about how to choose an acupuncturist, the expense involved and about insurance coverage. He’s from Raton.

Melanie Thayn is an independent consultant with PartyLite located in Plymouth, Massachusetts. and she’s going to show how candles make all events, special occasions and gifts even more special. She says it’s important to create a “Wow” factor at every event, and candles can help do this.

Entertaining tips with fresh citrus

Texas Citrus not only tastes great and smells wonderful, it is also beautiful! Get creative and see how many ways you can incorporate citrus in your next dinner party. Appetizers, salads, desserts, centerpieces - the possibilities are endless! Plan it, throw it, and enjoy it.

Want a unique display at your next dinner party? Citrus candles are sure to wow, and are so easy to make!

Items needed:

• Texas Sweet Oranges

• White votive candles

• Small paring knife

Cut an orange in half, so that each side will sit flat. Take a paring knife and cut a circle in the middle of the orange, a little larger than the votive candle. Place votive candle inside the center of the orange. Repeat for additional orange halves. Arrange several orange halves on a table as a unique centerpiece. This interesting display idea can also be done with grapefruit.
