PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University will repeat what it did in the spring semester, and close out its fall semester with a virtual commencement ceremony on Dec. 12.
The move was not surprising, given the university has been operating virtually all semester and had announced it would not hold any on-campus events during the semester.
The university will again work with KENW-TV to produce a pre-recorded ceremony for a 10 a.m. broadcast statewide on KENW 3-1 and 3-2 and online at enmu.edu. The ceremony will remain archived online.
“ENMU’s fall virtual commencement will incorporate as much of the traditional ceremony as we can,” Portales campus president and ENMU system chancellor Patrice Caldwell said in a school release. “But we also want to add a creative mix of recognitions and acknowledgments that engage our students and express their unique accomplishments.
“Our celebration will try to capture all the hopes, wishes and aspirations of every ENMU commencement. It will be a special event because we will be celebrating together — faculty, students, staff, family and friends — as a Greyhound family.”
Highlights will include the singing of the national anthem and alma mater by ENMU students and remarks from the president, vice president for academic affairs and other special speakers.
Graduating students will also receive an opportunity to submit photos that will be featured during the conclusion that lists graduates.
