ENMU grad Terry joins Spring League

PORTALES — Recent Eastern New Mexico University graduate Paul Terry is getting his first crack at professional football after joining the Generals of The Spring League.

The league features six teams, with the Generals playing a four-game schedule in San Antonio, Texas, beginning Oct. 27. The developmental league has seen 141 players signed by National Football League or Canadian Football League teams since 2017.

“The NFL is the ultimate goal, and it’s a hands reach away now and that’s all I can ask for.” Terry said in a school release. “I’ve just been believing in God and knowing that my football days weren’t over. I’ve been training and grinding day in and day out, staying in shape, and ultimately waiting for an opportunity like The Spring League to play against legit competition and earn my way to the NFL.”

The league was designed for scouts and front office personnel to evaluate players who, for whatever reason, were overlooked during the draft and free agent processes.

Terry holds the Greyhounds’ single-season rushing record with his 1,888-yard senior season. He is the school’s No.3 all-time rusher with 3,525 yards and is fourth in rushing attempts (644), rushing touchdowns (32) and all-purpose yards (3,684).

The Amarillo native was twice named an All-American by the Don Hansen Football Committee, with a first-team selection in 2019 to follow up his second-team selection in 2018.

The Generals will face the Conquerors in a game to be broadcast 6 p.m. Oct. 27 on Fox Sports 1. Other Fox Sports 1 broadcasts featuring the Generals will be Nov. 11 against the Blues and Nov. 18 against the Aviators.
