State on way to 50,000 cases

CLOVIS — The state appeared on its way to eclipsing the 50,000 mark on COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March, and a Roosevelt County resident was among 10 deaths reported Monday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

According to a Monday release from the office of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, the state confirmed 877 new cases to push the total to 48,104.

That total included 52 new cases in Curry County and 21 in Roosevelt County.

A female in her 80s from Roosevelt County was listed among the 10 fatalities Monday, and was the only person not indicated as hospitalized. Of the other nine, three were residents of long-term care facilities. The deaths pushed the total to 1,036, with 12 in Curry County and 10 in Roosevelt County.

The Curry County deaths include one woman in her 90s, four in their 80s, another four in their 70s, and one man each in their 60s, 50s and 40s. Of the 12 deaths, seven are men.

The Roosevelt County deaths include six people in their 80s, one woman in her 70s, a man and a woman each in their 60s and one woman in her 50s. Of the 10 deaths, six are women.

Curry County has seen a total of 1,703 cases — with 782 of those coming in October — with 665 cases designated as recovered.

Roosevelt County has seen a total of 513 cases since March, with 225 designated as recovered.

The state’s Monday release indicated 382 individuals hospitalized for COVID-19, and that hospitals across the state are at 74% capacity for general beds and 69% capacity for intensive care unit beds.

Of the state’s 48,104 cases, a total of 21,578 cases were designated as recovered.
