FARWELL — It was a tough fight, but the Farwell Lady Blue managed to nail down their first win of the season on Saturday.
Senior guard Presley Agee scored 27 points and Farwell (1-1) pulled away in the second half for a 46-41 win over Happy. Sophomore Charlie Trimble added nine points for the Lady Blue.
The Cowgirls (2-2) managed to lead through much of the first half, and were up 18-15 at halftime. Farwell, though, got its offense going after that and led by a point before outscoring Happy 14-10 in the final stanza.
On Tuesday, Farwell opened its season with a 48-29 setback at Class 3A Abernathy.
The Lady Antelopes (1-0) led throughout, but used a 16-7 run in the final stanza to finally put the contest away. Seniors Chanie Chambers and Mayra Martinez led Abernathy with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Agee topped the Lady Blue with 10 tallies.
“We’re really young,” Farwell girls coach Mikel Turner said. “We’re playing with four freshmen and a sophomore, and Abernathy was big and physical. It was a good game for us.”
Farwell returns to action on Tuesday night at Sundown.
Bovina — The Fillies got their season off to a solid start on Tuesday night with a 52-41 victory at home over Friona.

Andrea Chavez topped the Squaws (0-1) with 16 points.
