Farwell routs Amarillo Flames

FARWELL — Senior Presley Agee scored a season-high 33 points on Monday night, and the Farwell girls basketball team moved above the .500 mark for the first time this year with an 80-27 rout of the Amarillo Flames.

The game was a late addition for the Lady Blue after a scheduled home game on Monday against Smyer was canceled due to coronavirus concerns at that school.

The Lady Blue (3-2) outscored the Flames 26-2 in the second quarter to extend a nine-point lead to 46-13 at the intermission. Sophomores Charlie May Trimble and Jaelyn Smith added 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Farwell.

On Saturday, Farwell’s boys traveled to Slaton and absorbed a 55-51 setback at the hands of the Tigers. That matchup was also added to the schedule after the cancellation against Smyer.

The game seesawed through the first three periods. Farwell (1-1) led by one point entering the final stanza, but Slaton outscored the Steers 21-16 in the quarter and used the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.

Three players accounted for all but one of Slaton’s points, led by junior Treven Baker with 28. Junior Braeden Gibbs added 16 points while senior Hudson Sackett scored 10 for the Tigers (1-1).

Meantime, senior Jonathan Mora finished with 23 points to pace the Steers.

Both Farwell squads were scheduled to play at Ropes on Tuesday night.
