FRIONA — Relatively speaking, Bovina’s girls played a near-flawless game on Tuesday.
Senior Ireydi Vela scored 20 of her 22 points in the first half, all nine Bovina players scored and the Fillies dominated defensively as well in a 61-23 rout of Friona.
Bovina (4-3) led 19-8 after one quarter, and stretched that margin to 35 points by the end of the third period. It was the team’s second win of the season over the Squaws.
“The girls played some real tough defense,” coach Scott Hill said. “Everyone was moving, and they were switching on defense when they needed to switch.”
Junior Kate Saenz added nine points for Bovina. Friona’s top scorer was freshman A.J. Lunden with 10 points.
