CLOVIS — A Clovis man was sentenced to 18 months in the Department of Corrections after pleading to charges that included making a bomb threat to a Texas hospital.
Joseph Saiz, 54, was also convicted of battery upon a peace officer, assault on a peace officer and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. At the conclusion of his jail term, Saiz will face two and a half years probation and a year of parole and also be recommended for the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program.
According to a release from the district attorney’s office, Saiz called in a bomb threat to Covenant Hospital in Plainview, Texas. It was determined he made the call from his home in Clovis, and the hospital contacted the Clovis Police Department.
District Judge Matthew Chandler presided over the case, with Senior Trial Prosecutor Arwen Gaddis handling the case for the state.
An attempt to contact Roderick Juarez, the public defender for Saiz, was unsuccessful.
