Farwell boys extend winning streak to 13 games

SEAGRAVES — The Farwell boys basketball team extended its winning streak to 13 games on Thursday with a 60-26 victory over Seagraves.

Senior Jonathan Mora scored 22 points and junior Leo Nunez added 14 for the Steers (14-1), whose only loss came in a 55-51 decision at Slaton in the second game of the season. Sophomore Bradlee Lemon led the Eagles with six points.

It was Farwell’s second lopsided road victory of the week. On Tuesday, the Steers won at Sudan 77-19, with Nunez pumping in 15 points, Mora 12 and junior Dustin Sides 11.

Ten players scored for Farwell in the contest. Meantime, the top scorer for the Hornets (1-10) was junior Michael Limon with six points.

In other games on Thursday:

Farwell girls 52, Seagraves 28 — The Lady Blue rode eight points from senior Presley Agee to a 15-7 first-quarter lead, then finished off the Lady Eagles with a 16-5 blitz in the final stanza.

Agee ended the night with 28 points for Farwell (10-7), including a trio of 3-point baskets.

Olton 73, Muleshoe boys 41 — The host Mustangs hit 10 3-pointers, including four in a row during a 25-7 run to open the game.

Senior Israel Santillan and junior Chris Urbina each scored 19 points to pace Olton (11-1), whose lone setback came at Class 3A Bushland on Dec. 11. Meantime, junior Zach Hasley scored a personal-best 10 points for the Mules (4-6), and sophomore Irvin Torres added nine.

In girls action on Tuesday:

Sudan 57, Farwell 50 — Junior Addison Boehning scored 16 of her 21 points in the second half to help the host Hornettes (6-9) rally past the Lady Blue.

Sophomore Gracyn Shultz added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while sophomore Stevi Lockhart finished with 11 for Sudan.

Farwell, which led by six at the quarter and 27-26 at halftime, got 22 points from Agee and 13 from sophomore Charlie May Trimble.
