Nutrition recession ahead on show

Information on nutrition recession, food and wine pairing and learning to do smocking will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Mary Lee Chin is a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the California Raisin Marketing Board, and she will talk about nutrition recession: or what to do with the food budget as the economy flags, sags and drags. Chin lives in Austin, Texas.

David Mirassou is a wine expert and a sixth-generation winemaker. He believes that food and wine enhance one another and are best shared with family and friends with everyday foods on everyday occasions. His business is Mirassou Winery and he’s from San Jose, California.

Kim Sanders is an embroidery teacher and designer who represents the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Smocking is embroidery on pleats or embroidery that causes the fabric to pleat. We usually associate smocking with children’s clothing, but English smocks were originally men’s garments because the smocking provided elasticity for ease of movement. The EGA is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.

Information on humor and stress, using specialty stamps to create a quilt, and ways to enjoy turkey year ‘round will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Motivational speaker Sue Hansen will talk about humor and stress. Stress is inevitable in today’s environment, and some people weather the strain better than others. Many accomplish this through humor. Her business is Sue Hansen Speaks, and she lives in Montrose, Colorado.

Designer and crafter Ann Butler will show how to use specialty stamps to stamp out a real quilt. The stamps are created without a lip so you can easily place them next to each other to create awesome art, mixed media pieces, backgrounds and more. Her company is Ann Butler Designs in Villard, Minnesota.

Marty Van Ness is a spokesperson and home economist for Butterball in Chicago. She’s going to tell how to enjoy turkey throughout the year — not just during the holidays. She will demonstrate traditional turkey recipe ideas with a more contemporary twist — especially good for the Millennials.
