CLOVIS — Get ready to add some 575s in your dialing habits, because 10-digit numbers will be the norm pretty soon.
The state is beginning a six-month introductory phase on April 24 to inform residents all in-state calls should be dialed as 10-digit numbers. On Oct. 24, only 10-digit numbers will complete. Automated recording will remind New Mexicans of the change.
The change was announced Tuesday by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
The change is coming due to implementation of a three-digit number for the National Suicide Hotline. On July 16, 2022, the hotline will be reachable through simply dialing 988, and that implementation requires 10-digit dialing.
