Eagles complete sweep of Hounds

OKLAHOMA CITY — It was another rough outing for the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team on Saturday.

For the second time in the series, Oklahoma Christian jumped on the Greyhounds early and often and cruised to a 12-2 victory to complete a three-game sweep of the suddenly-struggling Greyhounds (5-16, 5-15 LSC), who have lost six in a row and eight of nine after posting a 4-2 mark over their previous six contests.

A double steal produced one run and RBI singles by catcher Coleton Hinkle and second baseman Grant Lake made it 3-0 after one inning. By the fourth, it was 12-0.

Hinkle had three of the Eagles’ 13 hits and left fielder Tanner White added a two-run homer as Oklahoma Christian (11-9, 10-8) finished the series with 45 runs on 48 hits — 25 for extra bases — while compiling a .449 team batting average.

Left-hander Julien Ly (3-1) worked six shutout innings, throwing only 70 pitches and allowing just two hits with one walk and six strikeouts. The Hounds got to reliever Robbie Suhr for two runs on three hits in the seventh, getting a run-scoring single from designated hitter Rio Granger and an RBI double from catcher Andres Quintana.

The game was called after 6 1/2 innings on the 10-run rule.

Granger, a redshirt freshman from Carlsbad, had two hits for the Hounds, and finished the weekend 6-for-8 with two doubles, a pinch-hit three-run homer on Friday, four runs scored and four RBIs.

ENMU travels to San Antonio this weekend for a three-game LSC set against St. Mary’s, starting with a 1 p.m. (MDT) doubleheader on Friday.
