CLOVIS — Lola De Groot certainly filled up most of the columns in the stat sheet Tuesday night.
The Clovis Christian senior compiled a triple-double with 10 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in the Lady Eagles’ 64-46 District 6-1A victory over San Jon at the CCS gym. In addition, she finished with six assists and seven steals.
Meantime, sister Sofia De Groot poured in 30 points, and senior Abby Lusk added 15.
It took that kind of production, too, because the Lady Coyotes (0-3, 0-1 district) played CCS tough. San Jon led 15-6 after one quarter and still carried a 38-37 advantage into the final period before the Lady Eagles (2-1, 2-1) ran away with a 27-point output.
Freshmen Karlee Elliott with 15 points and Sarah Archuleta with 11 paced San Jon, whose 11-player roster includes two seniors, five eighth-graders and four freshmen.
Logan 52, Grady 50 — The Lady Bronchos led much of the way, but came up just short at Logan in District 6-1A.
Senior Kambry Burns scored 18 points while junior Kyra Conway tossed in four 3-pointers and 16 points for the Lady Longhorns (2-0, 2-0). Senior Teryn Foote topped Grady (2-1, 1-1) with 12 points, including a couple of 3s, while sister Taylor Foote added 11.
Melrose 56, Tucumcari 8 — At Melrose, the Lady Buffs overwhelmed an extremely young Tucumcari squad, holding the Lady Rattlers scoreless in two of the four stanzas.
Four players reached twin digits for Melrose, playing its season opener — sophomore Isabelle Sena with 13 points and senior Hailey Martin, junior Johanna Roybal and freshman Graci Odom with 11 apiece. Sophomore Alexus Lafferty — the only one of the team’s 10 players not in the eighth-grade or freshman classes — had six points for Tucumcari (0-3).
In an April 3 (Saturday) matchup:
Logan 50, Clovis Christian 44 — At CCS, the Lady Longhorns opened a 19-7 first quarter led but had to hold off Clovis Christian at the end.
Senior Karlee Cantrell scored 14 points and Burns and Conway added 11 each for Logan, while the Lady Eagles got 19 points from Sofia De Groot and 17 points and five blocks from Lola De Groot.
Grady 67, Elida 24 — The host Lady Bronchos overwhelmed Elida early and cruised to a non-district victory behind 15 points from Teryn Foote and 13 from senior Krissy Grau. Sophomore Timberlyn West and freshman Taylea Nelson each had six points for Elida (0-2, 0-1 District 4-1), which dropped its district opener at home on Tuesday to Gateway Christian.
