CHS rolls in swimming opener

LOVINGTON — Clovis High’s swimmers earned 13 state provisional qualifying marks in their season-opening dual meet with Lovington on Wednesday.

Clovis defeated Lovington 103-23 on the boys side and 124-20 in girls competition.

For the boys, provisional qualifiers were the 200 medley relay team of Porter Kidd, Thomas Palla, David Reed and William Longhenry, first with a time of one minute, 50.82 seconds; Pella, first in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.57; Reeb, first in the 100 butterfly in 57.81 seconds; Palla, first in 5:13.54, and Kidd, second in 5:14.18, in the 500 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Reed, Longhenry, Kidd and Palla, first in 3:38.79.

Other first-place outings for the Wildcats were by Kidd, 1:58.48 in the 200 freestyle; Ricky Southern, 26.47 in the 50 freestyle and 58.99 in the 100 freestyle; the 200 freestyle relay team of Southern, Kriday Andiboina, Matthew Del Toro and Brandon Rodriguez in 1:56.51; Reeb, 1:05.63 in the 100 backstroke, and Andiboina, 1:15.43 in the 100 breaststroke.

Girls provisional qualifiers included the 200 medley relay team of Brynn Longley, Jakoda Culley, Lexi Spears and Julia Spears, first in 2:04.80; Shyann Kissinger, first in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.66l; Culley, first in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.53; Longley, first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.66; Kissinger, first in 5:13.13, and Julia Spears, second in 5:46.91, in the 500 free, and the 400 relay team of Kiara Morgan, Kissinger, Longley and Julia Spears, first in 4:04.36.

Other wins for the Lady Wildcats came from Lexi Spears, 29.80 in the 50 freestyle; Longley, 1:08.85 in the 100 butterfly; Morgan, 59.41 in the 100 freestyle; Culley, 1:14.55 in 100 breaststroke, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Tabitha May, Kissinger, Culley and Morgan in 1:52.34.

CHS swimmers return to action on Wednesday at Rio Rancho, facing Rio Rancho and Rio Rancho Cleveland.
