DORA — The Elida Tigers controlled the first half Tuesday night and went on to a 49-32 victory over Dora in District 4-1A boys basketball.
Senior Teagan Burton scored 13 points and junior Rylan Creighton chipped in 12 for Elida (4-1, 4-0 district), which led 25-12 at the break. Leading the way for the Coyotes (2-2, 2-1) were junior Cache Skelley with 11 points and sophomore Steven Masini with 10.
In other boys tilts on Tuesday:
Fort Sumner 55, Clovis Christian 45 — The host Foxes broke away from a one-point halftime lead by outscoring CCS 22-6 in the third frame in a District 6-1A matchup.
Senior Creed West led a balanced attack for Fort Sumner (3-1, 2-1 district) with 10 points, while eight others contributed to the scoring column.
Meantime, sophomore Carter Teune led all scorers with 17 points for CCS (4-2, 3-2). The Eagles (4-2, 3-2) were plagued by foul problems and three starters eventually fouled out.
Melrose 83, Grady 19 — The Class 1A top-ranked Buffaloes sprinted to a 26-4 lead at the quarter and never looked back in a 6-1A road win against the Bronchos.
Senior Tate Sorgen led four players in double digits for Melrose (4-0, 3-0) with 26 points, while senior Trace Jackson added three 3-pointers and 17 points, freshman Michael Cardonita scored 11 and senior Devon Bailey tossed in 10.
For the Bronchos (1-4, 0-4), senior Isaiah Mitchell finished with 10 points.
In girls action on Tuesday:
Fort Sumner 53, Clovis Christian 35 — The host Vixens pulled away with a 26-point, third-period burst in District 6-1A.
Senior Keeli West tallied 15 points and sophomore Avery Cavett 10 for Fort Sumner (3-0, 3-0), while the Lady Eagles (2-4, 1-4) got 12 points from sophomore Sofia De Groot and 10 points and 11 rebounds from senior Lola De Groot.
Melrose 51, Grady 28 — In another 6-1A contest, the Lady Buffs got off to a 17-2 start at the quarter and were content to play host Grady relatively evenly the rest of the way.
Sophomore Isabelle Sena scored 13 points for Melrose (4-0, 3-0), while senior Hailey Martin went 10-of-13 from the free throw line and finished with 12 points and junior Johanna Roybal added three 3-pointers and 11 points.
For the Lady Bronchos (2-3, 1-3), sophomore Hannah Loudermill finished with 10 points.
Dora 61, Elida 14 — At Dora, the Lady Coyotes cruised to victory, outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-2 in each of the first two periods.
Dora (1-1, 1-0) got 24 points from freshman Faith Jasso, while freshman Breanna Rodriguez netted 13 and sophomore Jenna Ramirez scored 10. For the Lady Tigers (0-5, 0-2), sophomore Timberlyn West had seven points.
