Gattis boys start off 1-2

The Gattis seventh-grade boys basketball team fell in its season debut, 30-23 in overtime to Portales. Scoring for the Cubs were Lucas Carpenter with 12 points, Nazayah Currie with eight and Brayden Leal with four.

The team rebounded on Tuesday to beat Yucca 30-20, with Lucas Brice scoring nine to lead the Cubs. Also scoring were Carpenter and Currie with six, Leal with five and Andrew Escobedo with four.

The team played Portales again Thursday, and fell 42-16. Scorers were Brice with six, McKenzie Rogers and Currie with four and Larry Varnado with two.

The Cubs are back in action 4:30 p.m. Monday at Marshall.
