Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
As most are likely aware, we have physically returned to school (sounds of cheering!). Students of all grade levels at all sites have returned to the classroom full time in Clovis.
We have still maintained our Cohort C option, for students whose parents choose to have their child continuing their education online, virtually.
Returning physically to school has been a powerful experience for staff and students. Interestingly, many teachers had long since returned to their classrooms, even when teaching virtually. Several told me they'd just rather be in their own learning environment with their own educational supports.
Back in the saddle for a few weeks now, school is not exactly the same as before, but there is a definite new sense of appreciation, simply being able to go to school. So far, there are much fewer discipline problems, and -- even with strict compliance of all the health and safety requirements -- there's a new appreciation for simple things: eating lunch with friends, having direct contact with a teacher, learning in person with fellow students.
Momentum is building, enthusiasm increasing, and we're advancing with plans for the future. One of our important upcoming events is ”Registration Station” to register little ones, both pre-school and kindergarten, for fall 2021.
“Registration Station” will be this Saturday, from 10 a.m. until noon at three sites: Lockwood Elementary school (1113 S. Oak Street); the Arts Academy at Bella Vista (2900 Cesar Chavez Drive); and the Clovis Schools Maintenance location at 500 Llano Estacado.
Each of the three Saturday “Registration Station” sites will have a team of school staff — including Spanish-speakers — ready at the computer, to walk parents through the process of getting their little ones registered for our pre-school and kindergarten programs.
Please note: “Registration Station” is for pre-k and kindergarten-aged students only. Regardless of a family's home address, parents can register their little ones at any of the three“Registration Station”sites.
The most important thing to remember is that parents need to bring the following documents to register their children: the child's birth certificate, their shot records, and a current proof of residence (for example, a utility bill, a rental agreement, rent receipt, or an Internet bill).
Please spread the word about this great opportunity to get your little ones registered for pre-school and kindergarten. If anyone needs more information beforehand, please call our central office, the G.C. Ross building, at 575-769-4300.
