Lady Cats pick up easy victory over Lovington

LOVINGTON — After a difficult stretch of games, the Clovis High girls basketball team got the opposite on Saturday.

Senior post Hanna Nussbaumer scored a game-high 15 points, and bettered Clovis’ opposition in a 64-14 rout at Lovington.

Luisa Chavez added nine for Clovis, which reached 5-5 and now looks to finish the season at a .500 clip. Clovis, which played Hobbs Tuesday night, would need a win against either Hobbs or Roswell Friday to secure the .500 mark.

The Wildcats had little trouble against Lovington (1-8), posting a 16-2 first quarter and reaching the running clock early in the third quarter.

A total of 11 players scored for Clovis, including seven in an 18-point fourth quarter. Nussbaumer had six of Clovis’ 25 field goals and also shot 3-of-4 from the line to lead a 10-of-14 effort.

Four players scored for Lovington (1-8), none netting more than four points. The Wildcats hit six field goals on the day, with none coming in a scoreless third quarter that also featured a pair of missed free throws.
