Curry, Roosevelt confirm 28 new cases of COVID-19

Curry and Roosevelt counties confirmed 28 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, along with one of the state’s eight deaths.

The Monday report, which combines Saturday and Sunday reports, showed Curry County with 28 new cases of COVID-19 and Roosevelt County with five. They were part of 570 total COVID-19 cases reported by the state, with 157 coming from Bernalillo County and 154 from San Juan County.

The latest confirmed local death was one of seven confirmed as a backlog of more than 30 days. The case was a female in her 90s from Curry County who had underlying conditions.

In other COVID-19 developments:

• The New Mexico Department of Health on Monday approved the Pfizer vaccine for administration to 12- to 15-year-olds.

Once the move receives approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state’s Medial Advisory Team, scheduling will begin at vaccinenm.org.

The Pfizer vaccine is the only one of three COVID-19 vaccines available for New Mexicans younger than 18, and all vaccinations for New Mexicans under age 18 require parental consent.
