Jennings accepts coaching position

Clovis hoops great Bubba Jennings is getting back into the college coaching game, after accepting an offer this month to coach the men’s basketball and golf programs at Arlington Baptist University.

Jennings, the No. 1 career scorer in Wildcat history, heads to the Patriots following three years coaching at Peaster High School in Weatherford, Texas.

This will be Jennings’ first time serving as a college head coach. He had two separate stints at alma mater Texas Tech, including a season as a graduate assistant following his college playing career and a tenure from 2001 to 2013, which include eight years as video operations and five years as an assistant.

He has also had high school coaching stops at Artesia and Lubbock Coronado.

Jennings, the 1980 New Mexico player of the year, still holds the Clovis record for points in a season (75) and career (1,525). During his Red Raider career, Jennings scored 1,727 points, while recording 378 assists and 149 steals, and as a senior won Southwest Conference Player of the Year, SWC defensive player of the year, SWC Athlete of the Year (regardless of sport) and the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award for most outstanding men’s college basketball player 6 feet or shorter.
