CLOVIS — The Clovis city commission will meet in special session Thursday, with the intent of approving the city’s preliminary budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
The agenda for the 5:15 p.m. meeting at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library does not have any other agenda items.
The preliminary budget for the year will be $61.733 million, about $5.25 million more than last year’s $56.478 million budget.
City Finance Director LeighAnn Melancon told The News most of the increases were related to implementation of the city’s compensation study, expenditures for the continued construction of the effluent reuse pipeline, the shooting range at Ned Houk Park and grant expenditures for the Clovis Regional Airport.
The budget may eventually receive an additional bump due to state funding for construction of a new senior center at Hillcrest Park. Melancon said that is not included in the preliminary budget because the city has yet to receive the grant documents.
