Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
At the beginning of April we held our first “Registration Station,” to register PreK and kindergarten students for the upcoming school year, 2021-22. Turnout was great, and due to its success, it was clear we needed a second opportunity for any who might have missed the first time around.
This Saturday, from 8 a.m. until noon, we will again hold our Registration Station at three locations: Cameo Elementary (1500 Cameo); Lockwood Elementary(1113 S. Oak), and Clovis Schools Maintenance location (500 Llano Estacado).
As before, regardless of their home school district, parents can register their PreK and kindergarten students at any of the three locations. A team of Clovis Municipal Schools staff will be at each site, including Spanish-speakers, to guide parents through the process of getting little ones registered.
Parents need to bring their child's birth certificate, current shot records, and current proof of residence, and remember -- this is registration for PreK and kindergarten students only. If the child is 5 years old as of Sept. 1, 2021, it's time to register them for public school.
These days technology permeates much of what we do and how we function, and most school districts have shifted to online registration, sometimes an intimidating process. While PreK and kindergarten registration is also online, our Registration Station events provide an opportunity to sit in person with one of our competent staff members who help parents navigate this challenging online registration process together.
Please note, however, any parents/guardians of PreK or kinder students can go online themselves to register via our website (www.clovis-schools.org) . If parents already have a “Family Access” account on Skyward (our student information platform), but don't remember their login information, they should contact [email protected], and our Tech folks can assist.
The Registration Station event has been organized by Gena Wilkerson, executive assistant to academic services, whose amazingly diverse skills and talents have enabled her to pull together and facilitate these events, as a convenience to families of our little ones.
Wilkerson contributes extensive experience in various areas, including the last decade for our school district, first in the finance, now in academic services. Dubbed our “power facilitator,” Wilkerson's caring heart, along with her considerable diplomatic skills have contributed greatly to our team.
As I commented on the complexities of pulling together these events, her only comment was, “This has been a great blessing because I get to help families find solutions that lead to student success.”
