Jewelry, window treatments ahead on show

Information on using a Scissor Mouse, selecting jewelry and making window treatments will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Marisa Pawelko is a designer and crafter, and she is going to demonstrate one of the neatest “gadgets” to come out in the craft business, Westcott’s Scissor Mouse. It’s safe, no cutting mat is needed, it’s great for kids and can be used anywhere. She represents Westcott Brand Cutting Tools, and her business is Modern Surrealist in Winfield, Illinois.

Jewelry designer, Kristina Rachel is going to talk about how to select which jewelry pieces to wear with different outfits or with different pieces of jewelry. She’ll also show how to stack jewelry and how to wear statement and accent pieces. Her company is Rachel Claire Collection in San Jose, California.

Interior designer, Beth Secosky is going to show how to update window treatments using a current trend – color blocking. She’ll talk about fabric selection, hanging panels and costs involved. Her business is EASYdesigns, LLC in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Information on watermelon, painting on glass and making rainbow desserts will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Stephanie Duda, spokesperson for the National Watermelon Assn. in Orlando, Florida, refers to watermelon as “practically a multi-vitamin.” She will discuss watermelon facts as she prepares some recipes featuring watermelon.

Kris Cranford, a One Stroke certified instructor from Portales, will show how to paint on glass using techniques developed by One Stroke founder, Donna Dewberry.

Nancy Siler, formerly with Wilton Industries in Woodridge, Illinois, will show how to use a spray mist to add color to a variety of desserts, including cakes, cookies and brownies.

Watermelon treats

Watermelon fire & ice salsa

3 cups seeded and chopped watermelon

1/2 cup green peppers

2 tablespoons lime juice

1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

1 tablespoon green onion

1-2 tablespoons jalapenõ peppers

Combine ingredients; mix well and cover. Refrigerate 1 hour or more. Makes 3 cups. Serve with chips or as a garnish for chicken and fish.

Watermelon breakfast a go go

In a large, cylindrical glass or ‘to go cup’ container, create the following parfait:

Bottom Layer: Low fat granola

Next Layer: Small chunks of seedless watermelon

Next Layer: Low fat banana yogurt

Next Layer: Low fat granola

Next Layer: Small chunks of seedless watermelon

Top Layer: Low fat banana yogurt

Garnish: A slice of banana, toasted almonds or coconut, and chunks of watermelon
