LOVINGTON — The Portales High softball team dropped a District 4-4A doubleheader to Lovington on Saturday, falling by scores of 4-1 and 11-3.
The Lady Wildcats led just 1-0 before scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth in the opener. PHS (2-14, 1-9 district) got on the board in the sixth when sophomore Kenzee Rowland singled to drive in junior Cashlin Fraze.
Sophomore Alivia Gonzales went the distance in the circle for the Lady Rams, allowing nine hits but no earned runs. She walked two and struck out seven.
Gonzales led Portales at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Fraze and junior Teagan Faust each had one hit.
In the second contest, Lovington (10-7, 5-5) posted a trio of three-run innings en route to the victory.
Faust finished 3-for-4 and scored twice for PHS, while sophomores Cyria Aguirre and Abby Marquez each posted a double. Marquez went the distance for the Lady Rams in the circle.
Portales was slated to wrap up its season on Tuesday night, hosting Roswell Goddard in a district twin bill.
