Doll furniture ahead on show

Information on adding embellishments to doll furniture, using reclaimed doors, and using one pattern to make four jackets will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Jana Beus makes doll furniture, and she’s going to show several ways to add embellishments to the furniture, including ribbon, buttons, appliques, yoyo’s and more. Her company is Doll Stuff by Jana, and she lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bruce Johnson is the spokesman for Minwax in Upper Saddle River, NJ. Johnson is going to show what to do with reclaimed doors from barns, porches, even outdoor sheds by recycling them and turning them into a beautiful headboard, room divider or coffee table.

Rae Cumbie is a custom dressmaker, artist and designer, and she will talk about how to have a year’s worth of jackets from one great pattern. She is President of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals, and she lives in Baltimore.

Information on cooking with sweet potatoes, refinishing bookcases, and making hats for cancer survivors will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sue Langdon is with the North Carolina Sweet Potato Comm. in Smithfield, North Carolina, and she’s going to demonstrate the versatility of using sweet potatoes in a segment she calls “Soup to Salsa.”

Bruce Johnson is a professional furniture refinisher, author and syndicated columnist, and he’s going to demonstrate a variety of finishing techniques for unfinished bookcases. He represents Minwax, which is located in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.

Seamstress and designer Evelyn Langston has designed a line of “survivor hats” for cancer patients, and she’ll not only show how to make these hats, but will point out specific features needed for cancer survivors. Her company is Ozark Crafts, and she’s from Gilbert, Arkansas.

Brownie trifle

1 pkg. (19 1/2 ozs.) fudge brownie mix

1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)

2 pkgs. (3.9 ozs. ea.) chocolate fudge instant pudding, prepared according to package instructions

1 container (12 ozs.) frozen whipped topping, thawed

8 (1.4 ozs. ea.) chocolate-covered toffee candy bars, coarsely crushed

Ground nutmeg

Prepare brownie mix according to package directions in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Prick top of warm brownies at 1-inch intervals with a wooden pick; brush with coffee liqueur, if desired. Cool and crumble. Prepare pudding mix according to package directions, omitting chilling. Layer half of the crumbled brownies in a 3-quart trifle bowl or dish, top with half of pudding, half of coarsely crushed candy bars, and half of whipped topping. Repeat with remaining brownies, pudding and topping. Cover and chill 8 hours or overnight. Garnish with nutmeg and remaining crushed candy bars. This can also be prepared and served in stemmed glasses for individual servings.
