Department of Health confirms 86 cases across state

Entering the Independence Day weekend, the New Mexico Department of Health confirmed 86 new cases of COVID-19, with no Curry County cases and one Roosevelt County case.

The state also reported one death, a Dona Ana County female in her 90s.

New Mexico reports 194,687 people have recovered from COVID-19, from a total 205,715 confirmed cases. On Friday, the state reported 67 people were in the hospital because of the virus; 105 were hospitalized with COVID-19 on June 1.

In other COVID-19 developments:

• Curry County has reported 86 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began in 2020. Three of those deaths were reported in June - a man in his 80s on June 2, a man in his 60s on June 18 and a man in his 40s on Wednesday.

• Roosevelt County has reported 59 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began. The county's most recent COVID-related death was reported May 5, a woman in her 60s.

• Curry County has reported 5,332 cases of the virus since last year. It reported 78 cases in June, a drop of 67 from May. The most cases recorded in the county for a month was 1,559 in November.

• Roosevelt County has reported 2,030 cases in all and just 19 in June, the fewest in a month this year.

• The DOH announced its latest prospective winners in the biweekly Vax 2 the Max lottery drawing, with $250,000 prizes for one vaccinated New Mexican in each of the state’s four public health regions.

Drawn for the prizes were residents of Santa Fe, Tijeras, Ruidoso and Las Cruces. A total of 531,967 vaccinated New Mexicans opted into the most recent drawing, and non-winners will be automatically entered for the July 16 drawing. Additional $1 million drawings are scheduled for July 23 and 30, with a $5 million drawing scheduled for August.
