Gluten-free cooking ahead on show

Information on gluten-free cooking and using a grid as a guide for quilted creations will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

K.C. Pomering is the founder of G-Free Foodie, an online resource for gluten-free cooking. She will discuss the benefits of a gluten-free diet and demonstrate how to prepare easy and delicious gluten-free meals. Pomering lives in Madera, California.

Quilter and designer, Laura Murray will demonstrate what she calls “playing in the grid.” She will show how to use a paintstik primer on the background fabric and then use the grid as a guide for your quilted creation. Murray’s business is Laura Murray Designs in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Information on making pillowcases, home decorating and recipes featuring pecans will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Nancy Lovett, sewing instructor with Ann Silva’s Bernina Sewing Center in Albuquerque, will show some different styles of pillowcases and then demonstrate how to cut the fabric and construct your own pillowcase sets for a fraction of the cost of purchased pillowcases.

Decorating expert, Deborah Durham will demonstrate using a computer, scanner, digital camera and printer to create some interesting decorating projects to use both inside and outside the home. Durham represents Hewlett-Packard in Los Angeles.

Ann Cox, food specialist with the Western Pecan Growers Association, will talk about the nutritive value of pecans and share some delicious and unusual recipes that call for pecans, including vegetable side dishes. The association is located in College Station, Texas.

Broccoli with lemon sauce and pecans

Sauce:

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1/2 cup chicken broth

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon lemon zest

3/4 teaspoon pepper

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

1/3 cup chopped pecans

1 (1 1/2 lbs.) broccoli spears, cooked

Combine cornstarch, chicken broth and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick?ened. Stir in sugar, lemon zest and pepper. Heat thoroughly. Melt butter or margarine in a small skillet; add pecans and sauté until golden brown. To serve: arrange broccoli on a serving platter. Spoon sauce over broccoli and sprinkle with pecans. YIELD: 6 servings.
