ENMU women's soccer program back in September

PORTALES — After missing last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer program plans a return to the field in September.

Coach Abbey Barnum released the program’s 18-game schedule Wednesday.

"While we had the unfortunate circumstance of not being able to play this past spring with the rest of the Lone Star Conference, it gave our program a huge sense of gratitude, eagerness, and increased competitiveness as we looked toward the fall," Barnum said in a school release. ”We are extremely grateful that we will be able to play soccer again this upcoming semester and I've never met a more determined and enthusiastic team."

The LSC played an abbreviated spring season after postponing the normal fall season due to the coronavirus. The Greyhounds were the lone team to not participate.

The five-game non-conference slate will be followed by 13 Lone Star Conference contests — one against each other LSC school. The Greyhounds will have eight home games, two non-conference and six conference.

After opening up with home games Sept. 2 against Colorado State-Pueblo and Sept. 5 against Western Colorado University, the next two weeks will see three road non-conference tilts before the LSC season opens at home Oct. 2 against St. Edward’s.

Other home games for the Greyhounds will be Oklahoma Christian Oct. 13, Dallas Baptist Oct. 23, Texas A&M-Commerce Oct. 30 and Lubbock Christian Nov. 3.

The LSC tournament is scheduled to begin Nov. 9. Criteria for tournament qualification is still being determined.
