Two killed in collision with tractor-trailer near Littlefield

A father and daughter were killed while the man's wife was seriously injured when their car was struck by a tractor-trailer Tuesday near Littlefield.

The crash, which also involved a Bailey County EMS Ambulance whose crew suffered minor injuries, was reported about 4:50 p.m. on at U.S. Highway 84 and Loop 430 near Littlefield, according to a statement from the Littlefield Police Department.

Investigators believe a 29-year-old man was driving a white Honda Accord on Loop 430 when he disregarded a stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 84 as he attempted to cross the highway. The Honda was struck by a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia and trailer traveling west in the right lane of U.S. 84.

The driver of the tractor-trailer tried to miss the Honda and sideswiped the ambulance as it was attempting to pass the truck in the left lane.

The impact of the resulting collisions caused the vehicles to come to rest in the center median of the highway, according to police.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 2-year-old daughter was taken to Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock by AeroCare helicopter. She died shortly after arrival. She was riding in an approved child safety seat, according to police.

The man's wife was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock by Littlefield EMS with life-threatening injuries.

The Bailey County EMS crew was taken to Lamb Healthcare Center by Sudan EMS with light to moderate injuries.
