ENMU AD's contract for two years

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University’s new athletic director has a two-year contract and will earn $120,000 his first year, according to ENMU President Patrice Caldwell.

Paul Weir, 42, was named AD for the Portales school last week, succeeding Matt Billings who resigned in May. Weir’s contract went into effect Monday and expires June 30, 2023, Caldwell said.

Caldwell said the contract will be up for review after one year. “Normally, salaries are reviewed at that time, based on state appropriations and salary adjustments allowed by the state,” she wrote in an email.

Weir’s already at work, Caldwell said, but won’t be on campus until Wednesday. On Tuesday he was at a football camp for potential students in Albuquerque.

“It’s his first opportunity to meet potential students and certainly our football staff is happy to have him there,” Caldwell said.

Weir, who’s coached basketball at New Mexico State and the University of New Mexico, is not expected to coach at ENMU, though Caldwell said he will likely help with some camps.
