• New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday — 12:01 a.m. Friday-midnight Sunday, no sales tax on certain items. Limitations apply. Clothing or shoes must be priced at less than $100 per unit. The price limit for desktop, laptop, tablets or notebook computers is $1,000, and for related computer hardware it is $500. • Deadline to register teams for the Smoking for the Community BBQ Cook Off scheduled for Aug. 20-21 at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds, 705 E. Lime St., Portales. Teams of 1-4 people will compete in a 24-hour smoking with results to be served to the public the afternoon of Aug. 21. Stick-burn smoking; no electric smokers. Entry fee: Three meats (brisket, pork butt, St. Louis cut ribs) — $200; one meat (smoker’s choice of brisket, pork butt, or St. Louis cut ribs) — $100. • Moo-ve It Truck Pull — 5-7 p.m., parking lot, Curry County Events Center, 1900 E. Brady Ave., Clovis. Fundraiser for United Way of Eastern New Mexico. Teams of 15 people compete to pull a loaded milk tanker for the fastest time. Individuals compete in a men's and women's divisions for the fastest time to pull just a truck. Spectators welcome.
