Information on teaching children to sew and cooking meals for vegetarians will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).
arina Gardner is the Creative Director and Designer for Carina Gardner, Inc. and Carta Bella Paper Co. She’s going to show how to teach children to sew by using the Bella Stash Bag pattern she created. She’ll also show how to make the bag without a pattern. She covers all the basics of sewing in this project. Gardner lives in Salt Lake City.
Bonnie Matthews is the co-founder of Freekeh Foods, and she says that Freekeh is the perfect whole grain for vegetarians because it’s flavorful and still provides an abundance of nutrients, such as protein and fiber that can be difficult to find as a vegetarian. She’s from Minneapolis.
Information on cooking with turkey, the importance of copper in the diet and recipes for parties will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Marcie Rothman is a cookbook author, and she will demonstrate lots of ideas for using turkey in recipes year ‘round – not just at the holiday season. Her company is 5-Spot Press, and she’s from San Diego.
Registered dietitian, author and spokesperson for The International Copper Assn., Pat Baird will talk about the importance of copper in the diet. Not only is it necessary for energy production, it helps prevent anemia and bone disease and protects against cell damage. Baird lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Whether it’s time for the Super Bowl party or any other special occasion, Janel Franklin will share recipes that are sure to be a big hit. Franklin is a cookbook author, and her company is Jan-Su Publications, and she lives in Tahoka, Texas.
Honey mustard sandwiches
Split 1 package Hawaiian rolls in half (Do not separate.) Place bottom layer in an 11x7-inch casserole. Layer with 1/2 pound shredded turkey or ham. Layer with sliced baby Swiss cheese. Top with mixture of 1 stick melted butter, 1 1/2 tsp. minced onion, 1 tsp. poppy seed, 1 1/2 tsp. yellow mustard, and 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce. Cover with foil. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight. Bake, covered for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove foil and heat an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Freezes well.
Frito corn salad
Mix 2 cans whole kernel corn, drained, 1/2 medium onion, chopped, 1 bell pepper, chopped, and 1tomato, chopped and seeded. Add enough mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to make creamy. (Fritos will absorb some of the dressing.) Add salt and pepper to taste. Just before serving, add 1 medium size bag of Fritos, crushed. This salad will keep for several days. NOTE: Add Fritos to the amount you think you will eat because they will become too soggy.
