Quilting, fitness ahead on show

Information on quilting, fitness and cooking with legumes will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Karen Eckmeier owns The Quilted Lizard, and she’s going to show a new series of patterns which uses a paper backed fusible for easy appliqué, and also show how she combines floral, fauna and critters to create a kaleidoscope design. Eckmeier lives in Kent, Connecticut.

Author and fitness guru Kate McKay is going to talk about the components of a “living sexy fit” lifestyle which takes a holistic approach. She includes correct eating, exercise, and motivation. Her book is titled “Living Sexy Fit…at Any Age.” McKay is from Newburyport, Massachusetts.

John Vollertsen, better known as Chef Johnny Vee, will demonstrate how to cook with healthy legumes and discuss why they are so good to add to your diet. He owns and operates Las Cosas Cooking School, and he will prepare a Cannellini Bean Dip and Tex Mex Veggie Chili. He’s from Santa Fe.

Information on sculpting doll faces, booking hotels online, and using decorative bobbin threads will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Lois Boncer is a designer and the owner of Aardvark to Zebra in Carlsbad, California. She will demonstrate how to do face sculpting on dolls and animal designs. This technique is called needle-sculpting.

Travel expert, Kendra Thornton will show how to find the best hotels — and the best rates — online. She’s with orbitz.com in Chicago.

Vivian Lavinskas, former manager of Consumer Affairs with Singer Sewing Co., will demonstrate some special effects that can be created by using decorating threads in the bobbin case. She’s from Lavergne, Tennessee.

Cannellini bean dip

15 oz. can of white Cannellini beans, drained

4 cloves garlic

Juice of a lemon

4 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

1/3 c tahini (sesame paste)

salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil to drizzle

Combine all of the above in a food processor and process until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle additional olive oil over dip and serve with pita chips or vegetable crudités.

Serves 6 as an appetizer.
