Man accused of fleeing from accident

CLOVIS — Clovis police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of fleeing on foot from an accident he was involved in while driving to escape a traffic stop.

Vincente Torres-Gurrola, 19, was booked Tuesday morning into the Curry County Adult Detention Center. He is being held without bail, pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing in district court.

According to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday in the Curry County Magistrate Court:

• Police noticed Torres-Gurrola at a gas station on the 900 block of Prince Street and knew there to be outstanding warrants. He was pulled over Lea Street, and drove off as an officer walked up to conduct the traffic stop.

• An undercover officer said Torres-Gurrola was involved in a crash at 10th and Prince, and the officer who conducted the original traffic stop arrived to find Torres-Gurrola fleeing on foot. Torres-Gurrola was captured in a shed on the 1100 block of Prince.

Clovis Police Capt. Roman Romero told The News a 61-year-old woman involved in the car crash complained of chest and head pain and was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Torres-Gurrola made his first appearance Wednesday in magistrate court, which assigned his case to the public defender’s office. An attempt to contact his attorney, Sandra Gallagher, was unsuccessful.
