1,548 new virus cases reported in state

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 1,548 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including 54 cases in Curry County and nine in Roosevelt County.

Of the Curry County cases, 50 came in the Clovis 88101 ZIP code, putting the area fourth among all New Mexico ZIP codes for new infections. The three ahead of Clovis were Albuquerque (87121, 62 cases; 87401, 60 cases) and Los Lunas (87031, 56 cases).

None of the 15 deaths reported over the weekend were of Curry or Roosevelt counties. The reports brought the statewide totals to 250,774 cases, 4,764 deaths and 222,152 designated recoveries.

The state reported 273 individuals hospitalized on Monday for COVID-19 — down from 310 last Monday and 320 on Sept. 13.

With three days remaining in October, Curry County reported 712 new COVID-19 cases for the month while Roosevelt County reported 175. Both are drops from September — 869 in Curry County and 304 in Roosevelt County.

The NMDOH will provide a weekly update on COVID-19 matters today at 2 p.m. The conference will be streamed on the NMDOH Facebook page.

In other COVID-19 developments:

• Clovis Community College, in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Association, is holding COVID-19 vaccination clinic Thursday afternoon, according to a college release.

The clinic will run 2 p.m.-6 p.m. at Room 101 of the college.

The clinic will include the Pfizer vaccine, either as the initial dose or a booster. Walk-ins or registrations through vaccinenm.org are welcome.
