Portales woman killed in Sunday crash

PORTALES — A Portales woman was killed Sunday night in a crash south of the city, according to a Tuesday release from the New Mexico State Police.

Wendy Marquez-Martinez, 20, died at the scene of the accident near the intersection of N.M. 206 and Roosevelt County Road 8. She was a passenger in a Ford Escape traveling north on N.M. 206.

According to the NMSP release:

• The Escape collided with the rear of a trailer that was being pulled by a 2019 Ford F-250 at the intersection.

• Two others in the Escape, a 23-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger, were injured and taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known by the NMSP.

• The two people in the F-250, a 32-year-old male driver and a 47-year-old male passenger, were not injured in the collision. Both were wearing seatbelts.
