CMS alerts parents to medication in first-aid kit

CLOVIS — Clovis Municipal Schools has alerted parents of third-graders who took a field trip to the Curry County Events Center on Friday.

According to the ParentLink email acquired by The News, students attending a farm safety day at the events center received a gift bag. A first-aid kid in the bag included over-the-counter pain relief medication, antiseptic wipes, bandages, wound cream, and other items intended for emergency use.

The district warned in the Sunday afternoon email that over-the-counter medication can cause harm if not taken as directed, and advised any parent who believes their child ingested a substance that could cause negative health effects to contact Poison Control or a healthcare provider.

Superintendent Renee Russ told The News Monday she wasn’t aware of any reports of ingestion, and that the email was sent out of an abundance of caution.
